Small town life & quickpages
Let me tell you one thing that my small town doesn't have ... GOURMET food! I don't mean foie gras or quinoa (oh my, I dare you to walk in a store around here and ask for either, LOL). No, I just wanted pancetta to make "Spaghetti Carbonara" (Tom Cruise made it on Oprah - it looked good). PANCETTA - Italian bacon - it was worth a shot. I've never seen it, never eaten it, but I knew it had to be good - 'cause all the best chefs use it!

Well, unbelievably,the grocery store had it! Yippee - a miracle! We made the recipe as directed, but the pancetta was gooey & sticky as it fried. I thought it was strange but kept cooking ... finished the dish and served it up. It didn't taste good ... but it didn't taste spoiled, so we ate with no plans to try this recipe again. Or if I do, I'll use regular, good ole bacon.

Next day, I felt bad ... ut oh diarrhea ... that does it! No more gourmet, exotic food from these Southern small town grocers ... even if they have an item, you never know how old it is :( Don't get me wrong - the town has progressed so much - we have mangoes, avocadoes, tiramisu, couscous, wine varieties, etc., but there are just some things lacking ... and it's ok ... I'm ok.

Uh oh. Sorry to hear you didn't get the desired results from your dinner. I've gotten to the point that if a recipe has an ingredient I've never heard of I just don't make it....lol
